Australia Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), an independent authority of the government of Australia, has tightened hands to penalise the traders who happen to mislead the consumers on warranties and returning rights.
The ACCC has recently launched a major drive of reviewing sites that deceive the consumer from the legal rights. Cautioning the online traders, the ACCC Chairman Graeme Samuel says that the Commission is well concerned for the consumer’s rights who at times are misinformed by certain online sites.
"It appears many sites simply 'cut and paste' information from other sites on warranties and refunds without checking that the facts are correct”, Samuel says. Cautioning the traders, the commission said that certain disciplinary action will be taken against those who are found guilty.
After intervening with Auction Alliance, Australia’s leading online department store, the ACCC has been given the enforceable undertakings on company's warranties and returns policy.
Auction Alliance is a direct deal trader, which sells a wide variety of goods including kitchen items, furniture, computers, electronics, jewellery, tools, fitness equipment, alcohol, manchester, musical instruments and toys.
After the site of Auction Alliance was reviewed, the company admitted that its warranties and returns policy were false, which could mislead the consumer about the warranty rights.
