More West Nile Cases Come to Fore in Suffolk County

West-Nile-virusThe count of individuals in Long Island who have tested positive to West Nile virus has risen from three to five.

A confirmation came from Suffolk County Health officers about two other cases on Friday.  Both the individuals belong to Town of Babylon.

The first case from Suffolk was where a man from the Town of Huntington between the age 70 and 80 tested positive for the virus.

The two cases from Babylon belong to the similar age group. Treatment is being given to two of three people who tested positive and one is in the recovery unit in a physical rehab centre.

Nassau County has given confirmation on two cases this summer.

The West Nile virus that is contracted from infected mosquitoes can become a cause of serious illness and in a few cases people have also lost their lives due to the infectivity.

The officers said that there have been 43 human infection cases and four people have given in Suffolk ever since 1999.
