After a long wait, Google, on Tuesday, revealed details on its much awaited and talked about Android 2.0 system. Google's open source mobile OS, which will power the Motorola Droid, one of the current times' most awaited smart phones, has been equipped with many interesting features.
Among the most talked about features of the latest Android version are latest application icons, hardware speed which has been optimized, support for even more screen resolutions and sizes is being offered, the UI has been revamped and the background's white/black ratio is much better.
"Over the next few months, we expect to see more and more Android devices being released. These devices will be running Android 1.5, 1.6, or 2.0. We are also planning a minor version update of Android 2.0 towards the end of the year, and that will be the last update for 2009", writes Xavier Ducrohet, Google's lead Android SDK developer in the company's Tuesday blog.
The Android system was first introduced in November 2007 and has since found its way into a number of mobile phones, laptops, tablets and e-book readers. The first version, 1.0, was named Donut. Version 1.6, aka Cupcake, soon followed. The current 2.0 version has been christened Eclair.
