In a protest, the campaigners set on fire six health trusts for not adhering to the safety standards and thus creating a menace for the patients.
The report was released by the National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA) on a plea by the charity Action Against Medical Accidents (AvMA), after citing the lethal conditions in healthcare organizations. These organizations used to overlook patient safety alerts, as revealed by the report.
The deadly situations in the health trusts included the use of devices in a wrong manner and giving overdoses to the patients. AvMA, with its effort, want the health trusts to rectify their safety standards and that too in a stipulated time period.
"Our findings are very worrying, bearing in mind that patient safety alerts deal with recognised life and death issues and the Department of Health itself issued a wake-up call to trusts following our last report in February", said Peter Walsh, Chief Executive of AvMA
As revealed by the report, the patient safety alerts outstanding at NHS Eastern and Coastal Kent declined to one from four, while that at the Kent and Medway NHS and Social Care Partnership Trust reached to zero from one. The rest of the trusts did not comply with any of the alerts.
Also, the number of alerts that were behind the schedule in Medway NHS Foundation Trust was six, West Kent NHS had eight such overdue alerts and East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust showed having 10.
