Thousands of customers of Barclays bank were not able to withdraw money from the cash machines and even not able to access their bank accounts due to a computer glitch.
The computer system of the bank had frozen up at nearly 2pm and the customers were not able to purchase goods in one of the busiest shopping times in the week. This issue also affected the online banking and telephone services across the country.
Too many consumer complaints were registered at the telephone banking centers of the Barclays bank. The officials of the bank were not able to comment anything over this dispute and still trying to find out the cause of the computer glitch.
A spokesman for the bank has said that the bank is very sorry for the inconvenience. Though the problem was solved quickly within 3 to 4 hours still the actual reason behind the glitch is not found.
Barclays is the sixth largest bank in the UK by its market value and it has signed a deal with the NCR for the maintenance of its network of ATMs across the UK.
