BHP Billiton to pull Potash out of disputed regionThe mining group BHP Billiton has been asked to halt the export of products from the disputed region of Western Sahara if it gets success it its latest attempt to take-over the Canadian firm Potash Corp.

Currently Potash Corp is the largest fertilizer production company of the world and the rising demands of fertilizer across the world has arisen several issues against the takeover bid and forced the deal to halt.

The activist group Western Sahara Resource Watch (WSRW) has written a letter to the chief executive of BHP Billiton, Mr. Marius Klopper urging him to stop the export of phosphates from the Western Sahara.

The WSRW has accused the Potash Corp of propping up the Moroccan regime, which has occupied much of the Sahara for last 35 years.

The international coordinator of WSRW, Sara Eyckmans has said that the group has asked the mining group BHP to join in an urgent meeting to discuss the export of phosphates by Potash Corp in last 35 years. They are hoping that the new buyer of the firm would tackle the issue of exporting phosphate.
