Zemco Industries of Buffalo, which is based in New York., has willingly taken a step of recalling almost 380,000 pounds of deli meat products that have been distributed all through the nation to Walmart stores since it is suspected that they may be tainted with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes.
The bacterium can cause listeriosis, which is a rare but potentially fatal disease.
The U. S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Safety and Inspection Service announced the recall today.
The meat had been distributed to Walmart stores and outlets throughout the nation, where it is utilized to make Marketside Grab and Go deli sandwiches.
The packs that have been recalled have printed on them the number ‘398412808’ and have the USDA mark of inquiry.
The deli meat products had been manufactured between 18th June and 2nd July, 2010. The packs have a number of ‘Use by’ dates that varies from 20th August to 10th September, 2010.
In a statement, Walmart said that the recall involved half and whole-sized Marketside Grab and Go sandwiches that have a sell by date of 25th August or prior, which are Ham and Swiss sandwich, Italian hero sandwich, roast beef and cheddar sandwich and smokehouse hero sandwich.
