The Woolworths stores are still unused even after one and half year of the collapse of the chain. More than 300 stores of Woolworths across the country had failed to find out new occupants after its closure. The information provider of the retail sector of the country, Local Data Company said the chain had occupied 40% of the retail business of the country when it was running. Some of the experts say about 150 stores may never be used as stores again in future.
One big group now using the stores are the discount retailers like Poundland.
Poundland is currently operating 99 stores and the company B&M Bargains is operating 25% of the stores.
Another big occupier of the former Woolworth stores is supermarkets. The new owners include the name of Iceland which owns more than 60 stores.
In last year the number of empty stores was 60%, despite of many stores remaining empty the new figures have encouraged the retail market in some way.
The retail chain Woolworth entered in to administration in the year 2008 as it could not faced the increasing competition from the online retailers and supermarkets.
