The oil giant BP is all set to start accepting the compensation claims applications from the victims of the disastrous Gulf oil spill. BP has estimated a 20 billion dollars fund to compensate the victims in the first phase. According to BP, the payments would be more generous than it was ordered by the US court.
The independent administrator Mr. Kenneth Feinberg is responsible for the suitable payments of compensations to the victims. He also oversaw the compensations for the victims of the 9/11 terrorist attack of 2001.
The compensation fund should be enough to rebuild the Gulf of Mexico businesses and residents which lost their wages and profits due to the oil spill. The tourism department of Gulf is to be redeveloped after the oil spill.
The oil giant has paid 368 million dollars as compensation to the claims since 20th of April when the oil spill began with an explosion in the deepwater Horizon.
About 206 million gallons of oil gushed in to the sea water and reached to the Gulf coasts, which affected the sea food businesses and the tourism sector of the area.
