U.S. banks lobby Fed on debit card fee limits

debit-card-feeNow with the gradual shift of the scuffle between the traders and banks from the parliamentary dome to the supervisory one, preliminary steps have already been taken by the Federal Reserve with a view to crash down on the debit card transaction charges.

An amendment included in the financial reform act passed in July which provided for certain restrictions was being protested against by the banks.

The banks are currently making efforts to retrieve whatever they can and persuade the Federal Reserve about the need of largely outlining at least some dispensation fees like fraud inhibition charges until the rule is being made and finally declared.

The Federal Reserve is having discussions with the merchants and the banks separately while it is also trying to figure what the costumers want by getting out to them through consumer activists.

The survey by the Federal Reserve is expected to be out for the world to see by September and the official scheme is anticipated sometime in the fall while an April time limit has been set for the ultimate law.
