Co-operative Group has reported profits despite of many challenges

Co-operative-GroupAccording to the Co-operative Group, its sales and profits continued to rise in the recent past despite of the extremely challenging economic situation in the year.

Every division of the company had faced tough economic challenges in the year and the company has said that it was expecting the same condition at least until early period of next year.

As per the financial reports of the company, its profits rose up by 17% to 260 million pounds in the six months to July and the sales also climbed to 6.9 billion pounds in the same period of time.

The merger of Britannia building society in to the financial services division of the firm and the merger of Somerfield in to its retail division have posted very good business results for the company.

In the food division of the company sales rose up by 11.5% but in the effort of converting Somerfield stores in to Co-operative stores had pushed down the like-for-like sales by 1%. The chief executive of the company, Peter Marks said the company officials were very pleased with the performance of the company in such a tough economic condition.
