One of the largest airlines of Mexico, Mexicana de Aviacion has announced to halt all of its flights after three weeks of filing for a bankruptcy protection.
According to the Transport Minister, Juan Molinar, all operations of the airline will be stopped by the noon of Saturday. This order of the transport ministry will be also applied to two other budget carriers associated with Mexicana named Click and Link.
The airline has already cut some of its routes and stopped selling tickets for the routes from early period of this week.
The airline used to cover 220 routes with 65 destinations.
The airline was established before 89 years and it has a debt of nearly 800 million dollars now. Mexicana airline filed for a bankruptcy protection after failing to make a successful deal with the trade unions over cost cutting.
The plans of the airline to sack around 1000 flight attendants to enable a hostile takeover by an investment group of Mexico were blocked by the Mexican government in the earlier days of this week.
