Now days, residents of Pennines are dealing with problems caused by bogus callers and police are appealing to the residents to take extra care. Various numbers of helpless people have become the victim of these bogus callers which has attracted police attention. Leaflets have been posted by police community support officers in the residents. Police is also giving crime prevention advice to the residents.
It is recommended that people should check the identity of the callers and if they are not expecting any caller then always treat the caller at your home with suspicion and do not allow him to get in without checking his ID, said by Inspector Jamie Collins of Pennine Neighborhood Policing Team.
Police have recorded certain incidences in the last couple of weeks where callers claim to be the delivery person from gas Company or come to check the radiators. Some people reported that bogus callers approach them as attendants for checking carbon monoxide or as a surveyor for carbon footprint survey.
Police is appealing to the general public not to let any outsider inside your home unless you confirm his identity because genuine worker will not mind in case you insist to check his identity from the company.
Many utility companies are offering password scheme and police is advising all the residents to use these schemes in order to avoid further victims of bogus callers.
