Mercury keeps invasive pythons off the menu

Mercury keeps invasive pythons off the menuWith a swiftly mushrooming population of offensive pythons with Burmese origin gulping up the innate biota in the everglades, Southern part of Florida is finding itself at the altar of a huge dilemma.

Recent reports confirm that these reptiles with an approximate length and weight of 6 meters and 90 kilograms respectively have been polluted by mercury in extraordinarily great amounts.

The python predators have also been warned to give a second thought to consumption of their prey as it might be harmful for them and their families due to the dangerously high levels of mercury in them.

Though it has suspected that the presence of mercury might be due to the metal poisoning in region of the Everglades, scientists are still carrying out a research to conclude with certainty the reason behind the high levels of mercury.

But many others have suggested that just like the other predators of the everglades having high content of the metal in their body, it is possible that these pythons also have been detected with the same.
