The buying of Crafar farms can experience the racist beliefs, expressed a Minister who has been given the responsibility to look over the matter as foreign ownership is being believed to be a curse for New Zealand.
Maurice Williamson, Land Information Minister, called Prime Minister John Key and other residents racists in a business conference who oppose the idea of foreign ownership.
“The number of New Zealanders who think overseas investment is bad frightens him and he is amazed that some of them have English accents”, said Mr. Williamson.
Williamson has been tasked to follow the sale process of 16 Crafar farms by Natural Dairy Holdings NZ Ltd. backed by Chinese people, which is subject to OIO’s sanction. The groups of protestors are raged over the planned deal and have initiated a public debate.
John Key showed his worry over the foreign investors buying New Zealand’s assets and he expressed that if this would be the scenario, they would be tenants in their own country.
The deal would bring certain export benefits to the Country and the export earnings would increase to $200 million a year; with the addition of 120 jobs, as stated by Bill Ralston, a spokesman for Natural Dairy. He also added that around 8,615 hectares of dairy farmland in the country has also been acquired by foreign players.
