According to reports, employees from ANZ and National banks are holding a strike in opposition to the plans put forward by the banks.
The banks were unsuccessful in dealing with customer debt targets and decided to cut down the salaries of the staff. The employees have started a public campaign ‘In a perfect world’, which is a satire on the bank, revealing that the bank is far from being perfect.
One can have a look at the resources of the campaign at the Finsec website http://www.finsec.org.nz/ANZ+Campaign. It came to surface that the campaign was opened after the bank proposals were declined by the Finsec members, according to which the new workers were to be hired on a lesser salary compared to the existing employees. Also, the problem of targets and off-shoring was still intact.
Finsec Campaigns Director, Andrew Campbell said that the problem lies in ANZ’s approach. The employees and the customers are viewed as things, which are just used for earning profits.
She added that ANZ’s claim that they subsist in our world doesn’t look real, since they are unable to deal with the real problems that their personnel are going through.
“ANZ National’s record of slashing pay and conditions, sending hundreds of jobs offshore and creaming profits from here to return them to Australia puts them at odd with their public claim they live in our world”, said Campbell.
