According to Chart Track, there is a change at the top of the UK all-format video game chart – with developer 2K Czech and publisher Take Two’s gangster-oriented third person shooter, Mafia II, knocking down the top-ranking ultra-violent game ‘Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days’ to the overall second place this week.
The Mafia II has received a mixed response from gamers and critics – while some of them have praised the narrative and the action sequences of the game; other have criticized the long driving bits and the poor placement of the checkpoints, even on the game’s PC version.
Nonetheless, the Mafia II has sold three times the number of copies that the original Mafia managed to sell across its totalled launch weeks.
Meanwhile, the third place in the chart, featuring the top ten best-selling titles in the UK, was secured by Disney Interactive Studios’ ‘Toy Story 3’; while the fourth spot was bagged by Red Dead Redemption; and the fifth-ranker was ‘Wii Sports Resort’ which made a comeback of sorts by leaping up from the 16th position.
Going by the Chart Track chart, LEGO ‘Harry Potter: Years 1 – 4,’ from Warner Bros Interactive, witnessed one of the biggest drops in the ten top positions – falling from its earlier fourth rank to the eighth spot.
In the sixth, seventh, ninth and tenth spot respectively were Just Dance; Super Mario Galaxy 2; Sniper: Ghost Warrior; and Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands.
