According to the latest statistics released by research firm NetMarketShare, devices running Apple’s mobile operating system – iOS - rather than Linux, were used the most by people for browsing the Internet last month.
Going by the information shown on the website of NetMarketShare - a firm which puts forth data pertaining to the market share of operating systems, browsers, and search engines -, there has been a steady gain in the browser market share of the Apple iOS since last year.
While the browser market share of the iOS was a mere 0.44 percent in October 2009; the market share figures of the operating system stood at 1.13 percent in August this year. During the same period, the share of Linux has touched its lowest point at 0.85 percent.
About the manner in which the market share has been calculated, NetMarketShare elucidated: “In order to more accurately describe usage share for Apple devices, the iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad are now being grouped under their common operating system iOS. When these devices are combined, they have over one percent of global browsing share, which is now higher than Linux.”
Meanwhile, despite the fact that the 0.20 percent share of the devices running the increasingly popular Google Android OS are way behind the Apple iOS, the growth of Android devices in mobile web consumption has been particularly impressive.
