Almost everyone has been brought under the spotlight and the investigation has been conducted in excess of ten years. The money that is spent is in millions and the number of research studies is in hundreds.
However, federal officials have not yet been able to clarify whether the substance bisphenol-A, or BPA, which is used in the lining of almost all drink and food cans along with clear plastic containers, bottles, and a range of other goods, is healthy.
Research done in the laboratory and cell cultures which reveal that it can imitate the hormone estrogen caused most of the distress over BPA. A term used for chemical substances which may act as hormones, BPA is considered as an ‘endocrine disruptor’.
Scientific studies, however, have yet to definitely prove that it is dangerous to humans. A tough debate has resulted where one side dismisses the whole concept of endocrine disruptors as rubbish research and the second is convinced that BPA is a component of a chemical mix which threatens public and general health.
