An injection which controls diabetes along with effectively helping in reducing weight will now be available in Britain by this Christmas. The injection, called Victoza, has been approved already by the National Institute for Health and clinical Excellence.
The Daily Mail reported that this jab could free many Type-2 diabetics from having to inject insulin everyday. This is also helpful in lowering blood pressure and cholesterol.
Insulin on one hand is known to cause weight gain and Victoza also called liraglutide helps in shedding several pounds and adding extra health benefits.
Instead of directly injecting insulin into the body, Victoza also helps patients stabilize their blood sugar levels by stimulating the pancreas into releasing insulin.
“If someone is having other problems because they are obese and they can't afford to go on insulin because of their work, then it is absolutely appropriate they get this drug,” said David Haslam, a general practitioner who already has experience of prescribing the jab.
In every case the jab should be taken along with other diabetes drugs and treatment should be carried on if the patient is benefited.
