Public health officials are still requesting precaution and prevention despite the fact that this year’s flu season does not look to be a pandemic initiation of a new strain like the previous year’s H1N1 virus.
A seasonal flu vaccine will be in circulation this year which will provide protection against the three strains of influenza including H1N1 also called swine flu. Although the seasonal flu has started affecting few people but it has not yet hit New Hampshire and now new strains of the virus are coming up as per officials.
Deputy State Epidemiologist Dr. Jodie Dionne-Odom said that the state has not yet had a positive flu test since the month of April but officials are urging everyone age 6 months and above to get the new vaccination shot.
He added, “People who were vaccinated last year still need to get this vaccination because it targets different strains. We can't say if the virus will be the same in predominance where younger people were affected more than older people, so we are preparing everyone. Everyone should be vaccinated. It really is the best way to protect yourselves.”
