The junior hospital doctors and their employers in Auckland have organised a meeting to resolve the pay issue.
The junior doctors have threatened that they will go for an industrial action, it the matter is not resolved as early as possible.
DHBs have done many significant changes in the employment contract, which according to them, are essential for workforce flexibility, accountability, and other reasons.
The junior doctors union, on the other hand, says that the changes are nothing, but a clawback of terms and conditions.
The Resident Doctors Association union wants that their pay rise should be increased by 1%, similar to what senior hospital doctors receive.
The resident doctors are planning to go on a strike, on October 1. The strike is slated to cause great inconvenience in many hospitals across the country.
Resident Doctors’ Association President, Curtis Walker is very disappointed with the DHBs action and has alleged that the board is not at all serious in finding a solution to this problem.
According to senior doctors and the health boards, the agreement of 2% pay rise is the same as received by the nurses and many other DHB staff members.
Dr. Curtis was amazed to know that the senior doctors in place of renewing their collective agreement have rather agreed to a ‘variation’.
