A novel study conducted by researchers from New Zealand has claimed that an individual can be infected from a seasonal flu and pandemic flu like H1N1 at the same time.
In addition, the main point highlighted by the study is that it if a cell is infected by both the flu viruses, the strains could swap characteristics, thereby resulting in a pandemic that would be resistant to drug.
The study author, Dr Matthew Peacey from the Institute of Environmental Science and Research claimed that he analyzed over 1,000-plus swine flu samples. The study report claims that over 11 of those samples scanned also bear strains of a seasonal flu virus.
A New Zealand study, published in an American journal, posts that with influenza, when two viruses hit the same cell it is likely that if one is drug resistant, the resistance could be transferred to the other one as well.
The researchers fear that seasonal flu could make the pandemic flu powerful.
“The biggest worry is not necessarily the pandemic strain that's around now and mixing with a normal seasonal strain because neither of them are all that nasty, I mean they're essentially like a regular flu”, Peacey posted.
