Auctioning of Bat to Raise Funds for Starship Children's Hospital

Starship Children HospitalSimon Gillingham of Mt Eden, a former Starship patient is going to auction off the bat, which has been signed by three renowned Australian cricketers: Steve Waugh, Glenn McGrath and Brett Lee.

The bat was given to Simon ten years back by a family friend, when he was undergoing the treatment for brain tumor. The man wants to auction off the bat, so as to raise funds for the Starship, under Foundation's Spring Clean.

The auctioning of the items will take place on TradeMe, during the foundation's Spring Clean and the funds will be pooled in for Starship children's hospital.

The organization helped Simon getting back to his life, so it was not a difficult decision for him to give a helping hand to it. He expressed that it’s a great opportunity for him to help the organization.

At the age of 15, he got affected with a brain hemorrhage; he was just given the survival period of nine months and two years, but his neurosurgeon Andrew Law claimed that the tumour could be removed. He was cured and he applauded the Starship for his recovery.

Cindy Carleton, spokeswoman for Starship children's hospital, expressed that the funds that would be raised with the support of Simon would contribute significantly to reconstruct the neurological and medical specialty wards at the hospital.
