Increase in the carbon tax will unnecessary pressurizes individuals and business to pay more electricity bills.
He also said that BHP and its peers do not have to pay higher electricity bills. Although, shareholders will be more than happy to pay the, higher electricity bills in his personal capacity, because they will be pleased to see the returns on their last year investments.
He declares this call on the basis of two reasons, one is its contention and other is supposition.
His supposition includes that at some point of time, carbon based fuels will counter revolt throughout the world and by his contention; he means that increasing the tax will deliberately reduce its usage.
He also said that as a first global move, Australia had increased the carbon tax to keep ahead to maintain its competitiveness.
Several business groups such as the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Australian Industry Group suggest Australian government to take the lead on pricing carbon before most comparable countries do.
Australia gets on with go-it-alone approach proposed by Kloppers.
Klopper said that by going unilateral, we are moving ahead of others in competition, and this step will make us stronger when actual global initiative arrives.
It is said that if Kloppers believe that making carbon emissions expensive will make him ahead of its competitors then this should also be applied on BHP and its competitors. Probably, he can suggest, BHP to cut down its carbon emissions.
Indeed, Klopprs suggestion is just like insisting our sports men and women to handicap themselves with weights on the hypothesis that at some point of time the global sports federations will make them compulsory for all competitors in all sports.
This is what is happening in increasing the carbon tax, this purely suggest paying more for electricity bills and creating a competitive value for other forms of energy like wind and solar which are considered as inefficient.
Kloppers in his call has not mentioned anything about is this global initiative never arise so his call contains embarrassing loop holes.
It is just silliness and offensiveness on his part to increase the carbon tax, which will just create irreversible pain for the people by paying more electricity bills. His proposal will bring no global change in its capacity.
