Wine lovers in Australia and New Zealand always seem to be a confused lot when it comes to tasting a wine they might have just bought. Plantings related to pinot gris have seen an exponential rise, a rise of 1000% to be precise.
Still wine aficionados don’t seem to be getting the quality of wine that can be justified. The very range of style being used to prepare the wine are so vast that only the lucky few tend to get their hands on the right bottle of wine.
In earlier times a brewer could have produced a sweet and fine wine in a year and maybe a dry wine the next, still such things were acceptable. Though nowadays all what the consumers get is an off-dry variety of wine.
The Australian Wine Research Institute in order to provide wine lovers a better understanding of the pinot gris style has made conjunctures with well-known winemakers and have been able to coin PinotG Style Spectrum.
The spectrum would be able to identify the ingredients of the wine using the spectral analysis of the wine, and would appear on the labels of Australian examples.
Though, wine confusion is nothing new, and is not just limited to Australia and New Zealand. In Italy, the pinot grigio is meant to be a light and sweet version. Still sometimes it turns out to be an intense and dry wine.
