Winemakers in Australia are devising strategies and making a number of plans to assault New Zealand’s money-making UK export market with a novel wine style they have named as ‘sauvignon blanc killer’.
Since it has been unable to match the fruity and grassy taste of Marlborough sauvignon blanc, winemakers in Australia are placing their ‘semillon blanc’ to be launched in the biggest supermarket chain, Tesco, in the United Kingdom in the concluding parts of the month.
Just like New Zealand winemakers, industry players in Australia too are struggling with oversupply production, however, people in Australia are as well fighting a contest to face the new world contestants and keep their traditional supremacy share dominant in the market place, which includes the United States of America and Britain.
Chief wine buyer for Tesco, Dan Jago, the largest supermarket chain in Britain and biggest solitary purchaser of wine from Australia, said that shoppers in Britain were mainly looking for cheaper alcohol and more refreshing wines like South African white wines or New Zealand’s sauvignon blancs.
Jago said that there was no doubt that the standard of chardonnay, shiraz and cabernets from Australia was down.
The main damage seen has been after seeing the weakening response from consumers since their tastes seem to have changed now.
