City Council: Keep Boiling the Water

Keep Boiling the WaterOn Friday, the Tasman District Council renewed their advices that the residents of Motueka should boil the running water before drinking. The recommendations were issued after researchers found some traces of E. coli in the water supply.

Some of the schools, such as Motueka High School, Parklands School, St. Peter Chanel School, and Motueka South School depend on a different water supply, independent from the sources where the E. coli was found. However, students are still advised to consume bottle water.

Earlier, when the city council declared that the water supply is finally clean, the residents started using the tape water. Yet, after releasing such recommendations, the residents have to get back to boiling the water. In addition, the residents were advised to boil any amount of water used, not only for drinking, but also for the food preparations, washing utensils and brushing teeth, and even the water consumed by the pets and that is used to prepare ice.

According to the city council, boiling the water would only be a precautionary measure.

Around a third of the town’s facilities, household and businesses received this warning.

Chris Choat, the Communication Advisor for the City Council Communications stated that the final results of the researches would be ready by Friday.
