After ten years of trials and tribulations, a team of researchers in Perth, Western Australia might be on the brink of reaching a breakthrough regarding the discovery of a vaccination for the prevention of the dreaded dengue fever.
The dengue virus is a reason for numerous deaths across the world. People infected with the virus result in suffering from high fever, pain of the joints, vomiting and severe headaches. Tropical regions of the World are the worst hit by the fatal virus that is spread by the bite of an infected mosquito.
Before any commercial release of the vaccine is followed up, the Institute for Child Health Research, Perth, has announced that a final test of the vaccine still needs to be carried out. The final test would lead the vaccine to become licensed for production and commercial availability.
Peter Richmond, Associate Professor for the research had recently announced that the vaccine would help people living in Australia fight the fever. He added that most of the people living in Australia tend to catch the virus, while on trips abroad, especially in places like South-East Asia and Bali.
The vaccine has been estimated to hit the markets within the time span of next five years.
