According to forecasts regarding the Alzheimer’s disease, it has been found that the cost of treating people from Alzheimer’s in the coming years is likely to cross the ceiling. People, who have been championing the cause for the research of Alzheimer, have called for an increase in the spending being done on the research for Alzheimer.
Information available in The World Alzheimer Report has stated that the cost spent on dementia worldwide would cross $604bn this year. The amount is more than 1% of the Gross Domestic Product of the World.
The report has further predicted that the costs spent on Alzheimer would increase by three times by the year 2050. However, Alzheimer’s Australia has expressed that the cost being spent on the disease could be brought down by a significant amount. They have stated that if the Government allocates more money to the research of Alzheimer then the costs would definitely come down.
The difficulties faced by patients, friends and family from the Alzheimer’s disease are immense. The emotional and the financial strain of the disease can be very daunting.
Professor Martin Prince, King’s College, London has further informed in an interview that the number of people suffering from Alzheimer are likely to double over the next 20 years. He further expressed that the current amount being spent on Alzheimer is equal to the GDP of the 18th largest economy on the world.
