At the Cutting Edge conference, people asked about what happened when the Notorious Chapter of the Mongrel Mob came to Salvation Army and asked for help.
The answer to this question will be given by Majors Lynette and Ian Hutson, who will speak about their experience of fighting the devastating effects of 'P' addiction.
The Cutting Edge is an annual national conference for the addiction treatment sector and is will be held at Rendezvous Hotel, Auckland, on 23-24 September, 2010.
At the conference, a presentation will be given on how the Salvation Army made a residential drug treatment programme.
Major Lynette Hutson said that the leader of Notorious was extremely worried about the effects on his membership of the methamphetamine ('P') drug.
Major Lynette further said “He developed a radical vision to lead his people, with the help of others, out of this abyss they found themselves in, and the Salvation Army became part of the gang's journey”.
The main aim of the conference will be to find out new effective drug treatment options keeping in mind the gang culture, training the staff members to efficiently run the treatment programme, and gain support and fund from the Government and local community.
A lot of media people will also be present to cover the whole conference. The conference will be attended by international addiction ‘gurus’, along with people working closely with local people in New Zealand.
