Health experts in New Zealand are really scared to see the figures of obese kids in the nation and say the Government is acting carelessly, since no steps have been taken to reverse the scenario.
Data obtained from Health Ministry divulges that in the last two years, four-year-old partakers’ 5.4% proportion in the countrywide B4 School Check belonged to the obese category and no less than 18.3% belonged to the overweight class.
All in all, 13,000 kids, who had been weighed were either overweight or obese.
Health Minister, Tony Ryall, on the other hand, said the Government would not tag the overweighing preschoolers as some noteworthy problem.
Dr. Robyn Toomath, spokesperson for Fight the Obesity Epidemic, said that the number of young kids becoming obese was a bit too scary.
She said thinking that obesity was fading was just a dream and with time, people have only become heavier and getting even more by the tick of clock.
Mr. Ryall said that ‘unhealthy-weight’ was long-lasting problem, and therefore, healthy eating habits with regular exercise were the key to deal with the trouble.
Janne Pasco, Community Nutrition Adviser, blamed parents for the instance since she said that the ultimate responsibility of a child lay with the parents.
