Water Forum talks about conserving fresh water

Murray-GibbThere is no second thought that fresh water is lifeline for New Zealand and that without it the economy and the whole system of the nation will come to a halt. Understanding the importance of the issue, as many as 850 industry professionals gathered together and discussed the issue of conserving fresh water.

They had come together during the Christchurch for the Water New Zealand Conference & Expo 2010. The event also organized a special program to discuss the earthquake recovery at Canterbury.

Besides this, the importance of the event increased since it coincided with the release of Land and Water Forum report. It has recommendations that talk about improving the management of New Zealand's freshwater.

Talking about this, the CEO of Water New Zealand, Murray Gibb said that the event saw a consensus being built and it was decided that the national standards should be changed and new limits should be set in Resource Management Act framework.

He also warned that the water regulators have been working in what is called a policy vacuum and that the act is present but is not being implemented effectively.
