Panel opposes $2 billion wind farm

wind-farmsThere is a strong opposition against setting up of a wind farm in Otago by a strong lobbyist group. The total worth of the farm is expected to be $2 billion and they have said that they will be taking the case to the Court of Appeal.

Save Central, the advocate group, filed its leave for appealing on behalf of lobby group- Maniototo Environmental Society, Upland Landscape Protection Society, John and Sue Douglas, of Alexandra, and Ewan Carr. The news was first reported in The Southland Times.

This is the second time that the group is appealing against set up of a wind farm. The first one was in August, when Meridian Energy appealed against the Environment Court decision. The farm at that time was Project Hayes wind farm.

After the case, the High Court judges- Lester Chisholm and John Fogarty referred back to a decision given by Environment Court and asked it to reconsider its own decision once again.

The hearing of this case is going to come on November 15 and is the notice of appeal is granted then the final decision can be put on hold for further period.
