Sky will be supported by Internet provider Orcon in launching its new online television service iSky.
Orcon said that Subscribers will be able to switch to Sky content from their computers with the help of this service, which was scheduled to go live before Christmas.
With the aim of building a countrywide content delivery network in which Kordia's nationwide data network and Alcatel-Lucent's next-generation Velocix technology will be used.
Orcon's Head of Wholesale, Charlie Boyd said that Orcon was able to build a network that gave a premium internet-based video by adopting the technology.
“Ultimately this is about getting content housed closer to the end user, reducing the cost to access it and reducing the price to consumers”, he said.
Charlie also added that the demand of users who watch online videos has been increasing and also TV websites and video-on-demand has also become incredibly popular.
According to the annual report of Sky, Chief Executive John Fellet is of the view that the Government came up with ultra fast broadband, which was a great opportunity for the users and it would have been a great competition, if Sky did not utilize it for its benefit.
