More than 200 jobs from the core public sector have been cut since the government capped numbers quickly after the election of 2008. According to the figures released by State Services Minister, Tony Ryall the job cuts included more than 600 positions which were shed in the first half of this year.
The six-monthly update on the figures shows that the number of full time equivalent jobs was 36,771 up to 30th of June. This figure was 2100 lower than the number of jobs of 38,859 in the month of December of 2006 and 608 fewer than the number of jobs in the month of December of last year.
The State Services Minister, Mr. Ryall has said the employment condition in country suggests that more job cuts would be seen in near future. Most of the departments of the government have not seen any improvement in their funding in last few years and it is expected to remain same for next two years.
So there will be more reduction in the number of staff in all the departments of government in near future. But the government has said the job cuts are necessary to stable the financial condition of the country.
