The Canberra Airport has confirmed it backing to the planned controversial alliance between the Virgin Blue and Air New Zealand and the Canberra Airport has agreed to this in contrast to its sister capital city airport in Wellington.
Both the airlines Virgin Blue and Ai New Zealand which used to fly as Pacific Blue on the Tasman said they might be allowed to work combined to compete with the growing power of Qantas Airlines.
The Wellington International Airport has opposed to the plans of the airlines to merge their operations and the airport said this merger would result high fares and less services. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission had rejected the application of alliance in a draft in the last month.
Meanwhile the Canberra Airport came as a supporter to the alliance and said it would be definitely beneficial for the city and for the travelers as well.
Canberra has not any direct flight to any airport of New Zealand and the authority wants to make its service available in New Zealand airports also. The authority also said this merger of operation would result in more flights to various destinations.
