Call for more disability care funding

Simon PowerThe government has been called for rising funding for the disability sector as two IHC firms were put into statutory management because both the companies did not able to pay its workers for the sleepover shifts in their houses.

The Commerce Minister Simon Power has declared on yesterday that the subsidiaries of the IHC and other charities which are funded by the Health and Social Development ministries were put in to the statutory management at their own request.

The organizations have said they are not able to afford a 176 million dollars liability for paying the overnight staff under the ruling of the Employment court. The firms suggest that the overnight workers should be paid on a hourly rate basis rather than the allowance basis.

The Health Ministry of the country has estimated the total pay back to the overnight workers at 500 million dollars. Meanwhile the Public Service Association (PSA) said on yesterday night that the main reason behind the refusal of the companies over the payment was the negligence of the government to the health sector of the country.
