Business up for Ports of AucklandBy announcing a strong first quarter earnings, the Auckland ports continue defying recession.

Today, Managing Director, Mr. Jens Madsen commented as the New Zealand is going on its way out of recession, the swell in the import volume shows the purchase power of the New Zealanders is increasing and it is the indication of the growing economy.

He further commented on the growth of the Auckland port saying that the volume of overall containers has increased up to 8%, from July 201 till September 30, in compared to the same period last year.

The company has reported net earnings of $24.4 million, from the Jan 2010 to June 2010, which is 55% more compared to the earnings in same period last year.

The increase of business in other field's whereas follows, the export is 4% more than last year, vehicle units were increased by 4% from last year, Trans-shipment volumes increased by more than 15% since last year and import containers business by more than 10%.

The Managing Director, Mr. Jens Madsen was happy about the increase in business. From this Friday, the cruise ships season will start with 79 planned visits to the Auckland port. Through the last financial year, it scheduled visits were 69 visits to Auckland ports.
