The recently released research shows that people can add spuds in their diet and continue to lose ounces of weight.
Dr Britt Burton-Freeman who was the lead researchers of the team said that the study has confirmed that experts on nutrition and professionals on health have been saying for many years that weight loss is not about removing one food item completely from your diet but it is actually about removing the calories.
He added that there is no proof available to show that potatoes or spuds can cause the weight to increase when they are cooked in the correct way. In fact, he feels, that potatoes can be included in the weight loss program
The researchers involved a total of 86 overweight males and females during a time of 12 weeks to calculate the results of a decreased calorie glycemic index diet which also included potatoes.
The participants of the study were divided into three random groups and each of these was given a diet which had at least five to seven helpings of potatoes on a weekly basis.
The research was done by the University of California, Davis and the National Center for Food Safety and Technology, Illinois Institute of Technology.
