In a recent breakthrough, the breast cancer patients will now have a choice of new and improved treatment techniques for the dreaded disease in Mumbai.
A team of around 40 professionals were participating in a three day conference which was held at the Tata Memorial Hospital. They will jointly give an update on the following guidelines for the application of these new techniques in a way which will be extremely cost-effective to patients in India.
They say that these new methods are very successful in other countries already.
The old method of treating breast cancer was to surgically remove breasts partially accompanied with the surgical removal of armpit glands totally. These techniques lead to the swelling of arms in the longer run.
The latest method has been approved and is in practice in foreign countries but the team will now decide whether they should give it s nod for treating Indian patients. There is one more technique called the accelerated radiation technique, which reduces the time of radiation therapy from five to three weeks.
