Four HDTVs equipped with the Google TV interface and Google TV Blu-ray players were introduced by Sony on Tuesday.
The HDTVs will be marketed as Sony Internet TV. Talking about the price range of the products, the Blu-ray player costs $399.99, while the price of 46-inch HDTV is $1,399.99.
At the search engine giant's May I/O developer conference, Sony revealed its plans to launch the high-technology Google-based TVs. The objective to roll out Google TV is to facilitate users to access internet in a clean and easy way, watch TV and download applications on the HDTV.
The Google TV produced by Sony runs Chrome Web browser and is equipped with Flash 10.1, so one can have the fun of internet on TV only. As for now, a few Google apps, including Netflix, Twitter, and Pandora will be available, but after the TV’s operating system gets updated in 2011, it would also serve option to download some of the Android Market app.
The HDTVs and Blu-ray player both have the ability to record digital video and audio from cable boxes through the means of HDMI and can control them by IR.
The remote of the HDTVs possesses a thumb-sized QWERTY keyboard. The TVs facilitate the users to access the web, while watching TV.
