To motivate the objectives, the safety practices were ignored by the environment department in the hurry, the report found, which was commissioned to find out the reasons behind the failed home insulation scheme of the Federal Government.
But, the former Environment Minister Peter Garrett was mostly acquitted from the responsibility of the safety issues which marred the progress of the scheme. Today, the inquiry report of Auditor General, which dealt with the $2.8 billion program was released.
The department was besieged under the different claims due to the extensive issues of fraud and safety as per the report. The auditor general pointed out in the report that although the coronial inquiries haven’t yet completed, lot of safety issues still remains but he hasn’t made any recommendation regarding the closure of the program.
Auditor General further said in the report that although the program was designed in a very short time to help the global economy, they shouldn’t have ignored the normal safety measures.
The report further said that the primary focus of the department was on the growth of economy rather that the safety issues of the home insulation program.
