Reducing the intake of meat to not more than twice or thrice on a weekly basis may result in reducing the risk of deaths from heart disease and cancer by a huge amount as per the health experts and environmental group Friends of the Earth (F0E).
A new research on the subject was conducted on the eating habits of the British by public health expert Dr Mike Rayner. He found that altering the high meat diet with low-meat diets would help in preventing 31,000 people from dying early from heart disease including another 9,000 from cancer and 5,000 from strokes.
This alteration of diet would also help the British National Health Service to save 1.2 billion pounds and thereby lead to reduction in climate change and deforestation in South America.
The consumption of meat on a daily basis, especially processed meat, is particularly bad for health since the combination of fat and salt intake could exceed health guidelines, as per the FoE, which also recommends consuming not more than 210g of meat every week.
