An argument about the future careers of two obese employees at Blackpool Transport is now solved in consent after their Company accused them of being too heavy to conduct their work properly.
The Company warned the two bus drivers about either losing weight or being denied their salary and losing their jobs in the long run.
The drivers’ labor union Unite responded by announcing consequences if the obese employees were further denied their employment and wages. The Union demanded supportive action on side of the firm to help reducing obesity rather than frightening their workers with penalties.
The cabin facilities for a bus driver in a usual bus were doubted to be too small for the over-weight bus drivers. Although the Company declared it acted in order to protect its passengers, the debate is cleared without the parties giving any more statements.
A spokesperson of Blackpool Transport announced: "After extensive negotiations the issue relating to the two individuals concerned has been resolved amicably. The trade union and management wish to ensure the confidentiality and dignity of those involved and have no further comment to make”.
