No Change in Salary of 13 Top Chief Executives in Past One Year

Iain RennieThe salaries of a number of highest paid civil servants across the nation have not been revised for the past year and in fact pay of some of them has been decreased. A meager increase in the salaries is experienced by a handful of civil servants.

Iain Rennie, State Services Commissioner stated that no change was inflicted to salaries of 13 Chief Executives, while the remuneration of six Chief Executives has been increased while those of five has been cut.

The major salary increase to the tune of $20,000 has been witnessed by Karen Sewell of the Ministry of Education, as negotiated by her. Now, her salary stands at $509,000. Other beneficiaries of pay increase are Bob Russell at the IRD experiencing a surge of $20,000 and prison boss Barry Matthews. Chief Executives at MAF, the Ministry of Justice and DOC, received increase of $10,000.

Those who faced salary cuts include Brendan Boyle at Internal Affairs losing up to $20,000 and a $10,000 reduction experienced by bosses of the Ministry of Economic Development, Te Puni Kokiri, Pacific Island Affairs and the national library.

Mr. Rennie says, "They're likely to have received some level of bonus, but if they just meet expectations they would not receive a full bonus".
