The New Zealand Transport Agency (NZTA) has decided to not charge any money for the replacement drivers licences from the victims of a recent online phishing scam.
The customers were told that the NZTA services team has sent e-mails requesting them to provide their details of the licence on a false version of the NZTA website.
Those people who entered their licence details on the fake website are requested to contact the agency on 0800 822 422 for cancelling their licences.
The agency has decided to not charge the normal fee of $38.20 for a replacement licence from the victims of the fraud.
The licence will be cancelled to make sure that the licences are not used for illicit purposes.
NZTA spokesperson Andy Knackstedt informed people that the e-mails are not from the agency and requested people to immediately delete such e-mails in future.
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs and the Department of Internal Affairs have included these fake e-mails on the scam alerts list.
The agency has also urged people to immediately contact their banks, if they have provided the details of their credit cards on the hoax website.
NZTA had also revealed a new version of the e-mail after caution was issued to customers regarding the original scam yesterday.
