The Nelson lawyer pleading a case that has been the major reason for the resignation of a Supreme Court judge needs a register of judges and interests recognized and a analysis of the Crown's dealing of the case.
Justice Bill Wilson resigned yesterday, stating a payment of more than $410,000 and also $475,000 in court costs. It's actually the first time in nation's history that a New Zealand judge has quit under accusations of misbehavior. Nelson lawyer Sue Grey expressed that Justice Wilson had acted in a proper way by quitting his post, but she was irritated as he was being paid ahead of her clients, wool growers' group Saxmere.
Discussions are going on with the Crown regarding the matter but they are hopeful they will be settled very soon. Justice Wilson is the main culprit of 3 separate allegations alleging insufficient revelation of his association with Alan Galbraith, QC.
Mr. Galbraith was representing the Wool Board in a 2007 Court of Appeal case in opposition to Ms Grey's clients, which was headed by Justice Wilson and that went in favor of Wool Board's.
Ms Grey expressed that they were fortunate that their clients understand from an acquaintance at a New Year's Eve party that Mr. Galbraith and Justice Wilson were connected to a racing stud.
