Lida McIvor from New Zealand represents one of the receivers of the Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) Medal at the annual 'You Deserve a Medal' ceremony in Auckland that is given to her for a highly inspirational inspirational life.
The survivor of German Labour Camps during the Second World War received the medal, handed over by Associate Minister for ACC, Pansy Wong.
Wong admirably declares: "Lida is an inspiration to us all. As her nomination states she is a survivor and an inspiration to those in her family and her community. After surviving, what must have been a terrible ordeal in Germany and coming to New Zealand as a WWII refuge, she has gone on to help those around her and by living a healthy active lifestyle has encouraged others to follow suit”.
The ambitious woman and passionate gardener engages in sports and organic food production and even supports families and neighbors with self-harvested organic products.
This year, Osteoporosis New Zealand nominated three winners of the medal who are all above an age of 65 and engaged and committed to improving other people’s health and living standards. The other to medal winners are Mrs Anne Mills and Dr Grace Suckling. The ‘You Deserve a Medal’ initiative honors role models for New Zealand’s citizens.
