The Green Party today expressed that plowing up the reserves of lignite in Southland shall be increasing global greenhouse gas emissions. Don Elder, CEO of state-owned Solid Energy stated in their yearly conference yesterday that taking out the low grade coal lignite shall be cutting down global emissions.
Dr Kennedy Graham, Green Party spokesperson on energy replied that the demand was simply irrational.
Dr Graham expressed that burning coal outcome as greenhouse gas emissions, which is adding to dangerous climate transformation. There exists nothing as ‘clean’ coal or ‘climate-friendly’ coal drawing out methods.
Dr Elder’s disagreement looks like as if they don’t dig up and on other hand export the coal also, somebody else would do the same with degraded technology. Dr Graham stated that it is a misleading notion that wrongly presumes a permanent demand for coal.
More coal in the market, the cheaper it shall be, and the more it shall be consumed. There shall be no enticement to swap to clearer options.
